What is Substance P?

ANSWER: Substance P is a neuropeptide that is found in the brain and the spinal cord. It is released by specific sensory nerves and is associated with the inflammatory process and the perception of pain. It is also involved in the vomiting reflex, defensive behavior, vasodilation and other physiologic behaviors.
