Footnotes to table:

*All sales figures were derived from company earnings reports, analysts' reports or personal communications. In general, these figures represent total sales in all territories.

**N/A: Not available (or not reported)

1) Connetics acquired Actimmune from Genentech in 12/95; then Connetics formed InterMune to develop Actimmune further in 4/99.

2) In 2001, Genentech combined sales figures for Activase with those for its 2nd-generation drug TNKase and Cathflo Activase. In 2000, Genentech reported combined sales figures for Activase and TNKase.

3) Sales figures for Wyeth’s therapeutics Benefix, Mylotarg and Neumega are net worldwide sales.

4) Sales of Betaseron (Betaferon) are worldwide sales as reported by Schering AG.

5) Campath sales figures are global net sales as reported to ILEX Oncology by Schering AG and its U.S. affiliate Berlex Laboratories, which hold worldwide marketing rights.

6) Genzyme converted all Ceredase patients to Cerezyme in 1998, at which point it stopped making the former product (except for small quantities).

7) Enbrel sales in 2002 as reported by Amgen as if they were full-year sales for Amgen.

8) Herceptin and Rituxan sales as reported by Genentech.

9) Worldwide sales of Humira as reported by Abbott Laboratories.

10) Worldwide sales of Integrilin as provided by Schering-Plough to COR Therapeutics (and subsequently, to Millennium Pharmaceuticals).

11) Schering-Plough’s Intron franchise includes Intron A (as a monotherapy and in combination with Rebetol [approved 6/98]) and PEG-Intron (as a monotherapy and in combination with Rebetol [approved 1/01 and 8/01, respectively]).

12) Schering AG acquired Leukine from Immunex in July 2002. For 2002, Schering reported sales of $35M. Immunex reported sales of $29M for 1Q:02 (prior to being acquired by Amgen in 7/02). Thus, full-year 2002 sales may have been greater than $64M. Schering did not break out 1H:03 sales figures.

13) Johnson & Johnson acquired Scios (and Natrecor) in 4/03, but did not report sales figures for 1H:03.

14) Sales figures for Novo Nordisk’s NovoSeven represent worldwide sales. The product was approved in the U.S. in 3/99 but has been marketed in Europe since 1996 and in Canada (as Niastase) since Feb. 1999.

15) Genentech always reports combined sales figures for all four growth hormone products.

16) Rebif was approved in the U.S. in 3/02, but had already been on the market elsewhere since 2/98 (1st approval was in Canada, followed by EU the same year). In 2002, total worldwide sales of Rebif were $549M; U.S. sales were $71M for the year.

17) Although Wyeth’s ReFacto was approved in the U.S. in 3/00 and launched in the U.S. in 1/01, it was already on the market in Europe (approved in 4/99 and launched in 5/99). Thus, sales figures for 1999 and 2000 are European only.

18) Sales for ReoPro are end-sales to customers as reported by Centocor’s marketing partner, Eli Lilly and Co.
